This is not a call to endorse every policy of the Israeli government, any more than support for the persecuted church in China requires endorsing every policy of the Chinese government-in-exile. Political nuance is appropriate and necessary. But political nuance must not become a cover for theological cowardice—for the refusal to say, clearly and publicly, that the Jewish people are God’s chosen people, that their persecution is an assault on the God who chose them, and that the church stands with them.

Friendships with Jewish people are “not for the purpose of evangelism—that instrumentalizes the relationship and undermines trust—but for the purpose of genuine human connection.”
