A couple of weeks before he began writing, Darrow sat with a young friend. The young man had been in Bible study at a church that still opens the actual Bible. That week the topic turned to the Jewish people. His friends expressed support for Hamas. They sounded, in his telling, very much like young antisemites.

If you are twenty, or thirty, that is not a story from 1933. That is Tuesday night.

This is not your grandfather’s antisemitism

It is in the group chat. It is on the quad. University presidents could not say that calling for genocide was wrong. After October 7, much of the West celebrated the massacre. Then the same hatred came for Christians. Charlie Kirk’s killing is the proof that it does not stop with the Jews. “Christians are next” is not a slogan in this book. It is the pattern.

They cannot eliminate God, so they try to eliminate the people most visibly associated with Him. Darrow Miller

You inherited the fruit: your Bible, your freedom, the sense that a human being is not raw material. The Jews introduced a moral universe—a God who is one, who is personal, who is moral. You cannot hate the root and love the fruit.

Bari Weiss: when antisemitism moves into the public square, it is never about Jews. It is about everyone else. It is an early warning system. The canary is an alarm in the mine — not a claim that the Jews can be erased. Genesis 12 is why they cannot.

What to do with this

Do not wait for a pastor to assign it. Get launch notice. Read it with two friends, not a committee. Name October 7 as murder, not “resistance.” Show up when a Jewish student is targeted. Refuse the feed’s oldest lie. Understanding without action is simply a more educated form of complicity.

This is the hour. Not the hour after the crisis has passed and the appropriate institutional responses have been drafted. This hour.
