The Jews Cannot Be Erased
What Rising Antisemitism Reveals About a Culture and a Church in Peril

1. October 7
On October 7, 2023, the world witnessed the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust — and then watched much of the world celebrate it. Crowds chanted. University presidents could not say genocide-calls were wrong. A couple of weeks before he began writing, Darrow was talking with a young friend and mentee. The young man told him that young men in his Bible study group, professing Christians in a solid evangelical church, had been expressing support for the Palestinians and for Hamas, influenced by social media posts, and sounded, in his telling, very much like young antisemites. That conversation produced a restless night and a morning conviction that he needed to do something. It is why this book exists.
From the Introduction: “That same hatred would later assassinate Charlie Kirk—a man who spoke boldly about the gospel, truth, freedom, and the biblical roots of Western civilization.”
Chapter 9 is headed Christians Are Next. “This hatred does not stop with the Jews.” The canary is dying. And the gas in the mine will not stop with the Jews.
2. Thesis in one line
Hatred of the Jews is not a racial prejudice, not an economic grievance, but a worldview war. “The Jews are hated not because of who they are biologically, but because of what they introduced to the world: a God who is one, who is personal, who is moral.” “The hatred of the Jews is, at its deepest root, the hatred of God.”
This is not primarily a book about antisemitism. It is a book about the ideas that antisemitism attacks.
You cannot hate the root and love the fruit. (Darrow: perhaps the most important sentence in the book.)
3. The 1933 warning
Germany in 1933 was 95 percent nominally Christian. The Sacred-Secular Divide — a Greek dualism, not a biblical one — taught the church that public hatred of Jews was someone else’s problem. It was “the most catastrophic application of the Sacred-Secular Divide in the history of Christianity.” The majority stayed silent. A remnant did not.
After October 7: “the same silence, produced by the same formation, in a different century.”
4. Three theological failures still present
- Replacement Theology — the church replaced Israel in God’s purposes. Romans 9–11; the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable (Rom 11:29).
- The Sacred-Secular Divide — faith treated as private; the public treatment of Jews as someone else’s business. “Silence in the face of injustice is not neutrality. It is complicity.” After October 7: “the same silence, produced by the same formation, in a different century.”
- Loss of the Hebrew Roots — a church that has forgotten its Hebrew roots has forgotten the people through whom its faith came. Old Testament as living Word; wild olive grafted in (Romans 11); Scriptures, Messiah, moral framework.
5. What to do this month — Presence / Voice / Action
Only the church can name this as an assault on the God of Abraham. This is not a call to endorse every policy of the Israeli government, any more than support for the persecuted church in China requires endorsing every policy of the Chinese government-in-exile.
- Presence: When Jewish communities in your city are targeted, the church shows up.
- Voice: Preach Romans 9–11. Name October 7 as murder, not “resistance.” Chapter 9: Christians Are Next. This hatred does not stop with the Jews.
- Action: Educate. Examine how your people were formed. Pray Psalm 122:6. Support the work that actually stands with the Jewish people.
Jewish friendships: “Not for the purpose of evangelism—that instrumentalizes the relationship and undermines trust—but for the purpose of genuine human connection.” Become Righteous Gentiles in this generation.
6. Close
Understanding without action is simply a more educated form of complicity.
We know. And because we know, our silence—if we are silent—is not ignorance. It is choice.
